I just dropped a new episode of “But I Digress” (How Writers Make it Work) with the amazing Nick Kolakowski. I’ve always admired Nick, loved his writing, and been curious about his professional and artistic journey. I’m very grateful he agreed to do this podcast, which I think you’ll find very interesting.
A few of the ideas Nick shares:
- blogging is a good discipline to develop, even if it’s not quite clear how much it drives in terms of book sales. But it’s going to be interesting to see how much it effects sales as e-books increase as a proportion of the whole (and, presumably, as it’s easier to go from reading a post to clicking a link to buying and then reading a book);
- pay attention to and promote reviews on Amazon and/or Goodreads, especially if you don’t have a lot of blurbs or reviews from the traditional outlets;
- don’t be obsessed with social media and influencers, but it’s worth the investment in time to identify the social media influencers who might be the right fit for your writing;
- the small presses tend to punch above their weight in terms of getting your book out there.
You can order a copy of Nick Kolakowski’s new book, Absolute Unit, here.
